愛猫が健康的に生きていく上で避けては通れないのが“食事”なだけに、
とても関心が高い問題の一つです。
そこで今回は、猫カフェで働いていた経験のある僕が、
猫の食事の回数、量、時間の最適解をお教えいたします。
この記事を読むことで、
飼い猫に与える食事についての悩みの一つが解消されることでしょう。
そして、飼い猫がいつまでも元気で長生きすることで、
一緒にいられる時間が延長されるきっかけになる記事になると考えられます。
猫の食事の回数
猫の場合、1日に必要な摂取カロリーを2～4回に分けて与えるのが適切でしょう。
食事の回数が少ないと、空腹の時間が長くなりお腹が空き過ぎてしまうので、
十分な量を与えても「足りない！」と追加のエサを求めたりします。
少しの量ずつ数回に分けて食べていれば常に小腹が満たされているので、
食べ過ぎの心配もありません。
出せば出すだけ食べてしまう猫の場合は、
たとえば球状で転がすとドライフードが出てくるような容器や、
タイマー式の給餌器を使うなど、食べすぎを防ぐ工夫をしましょう。
猫の食事の量
猫の食事では成育経過に合わせながら、食べられる量や必要な栄養素の量、
消化機能の働きなどによって回数をコントロールすることが重要なポイントとなります。
ここでは、猫が健康で長生きできるよう、食事の与え方の基本について学習しましょう。
子猫の食事の量は？
子猫への食事の回数は小猫の成長段階（月齢）と体重に合せてコントロールしていきます。
乳離れしたての時期は頻繁に、その後は様子を見ながら減らしていき、
6ヵ月を過ぎたら3～4回ほどにしてよいでしょう。
また、与えるフードの種類によって違うため、
パッケージに書かれている推奨給与量やカロリーを参照することも大切です。

成猫の食事の量は？
成猫の場合、食事の回数は2～4回に分けて与えるのが適切でしょう。
食べた直後にフードを吐き戻してしまう場合、
少量を複数回に分けて与えてみると吐き戻しを軽減することが可能になることが少なくありません。
個体差や運動量によっても違いますが、
去勢した猫や室内猫の場合、1日に与える食事の目安は下記のようになります。

ただし、猫の状態に応じて食事を変更する必要もあります。
☑行動的な猫の場合：上記の表の1.5倍ほどの給与量を目安に。
☑肥満気味の猫の場合：おやつ（間食）は与えない、低カロリーのフードに代替するなど、摂取カロリーを抑える。
☑妊娠期や授乳期の猫の場合：通常の2～4倍のエネルギーが必要なため栄養価の高いフードを与える。
猫に食事を与える時間
猫はライフステージごとに食事の回数が変わる生き物です。
そのため、それに伴って食事の時間帯も変化していきます。
子猫や成猫、老猫でどのように食事の時間帯が変わるのかについて、
以下にまとめたので是非参考にしてください。
子猫の場合は食事の時間を多く設定する
子猫の場合、生後5か月ごろまでは1日の食事回数を4回に設定する事をオススメします。
この時期の猫の胃はまだ発達途中にあるので、一遍に多くの量の食事を消化するのが困難です。
ですので、だいたい朝、昼、夕方、夜といった時間間隔でご飯を与えましょう。
それに加えて、体重をしっかり測りながら体重に見合う量のフードを与えることも重要です。
食べたいだけ食べさせてしまうと肥満体質になってしまい、将来太りやすくなってしまいます。
肥満になると様々な疾病の原因になります。
肥満になりやすいかどうかは実は子猫の時期の食生活も大いに関係しています。
成猫の場合
生後5か月以降、離乳食から一般的なキャットフードに切り替えできたら食事回数は2回にしましょう。
原則、朝と夜に1回ずつ与えることをオススメします。
ただし、猫によっては成猫になってからも一度に沢山食べられない猫もいるため、
元々食の細い猫の場合は、ご飯の時間を朝、昼、晩の3回にしても問題ありません。
老猫の場合も食事の時間を増やしてあげる
猫は歳をとると一度に食べられる食事量が減っていく傾向にあります。
そのため、猫が食べられる量に合わせて、1日3回～4回与えましょう。
1日3回与える場合は朝、昼、晩に与え、
1日4回与える場合は朝、昼、夕方、晩
もしくは朝、昼、晩、夜中などに設定してもOKです。
飼い主さんのライフスタイルに合わせて、食事を与えられる時間を決定しましょう。
